Lehigh University, Mathematics

I knew I wanted to major in mathematics and probably go toward the actuarial science track, so I wanted to go to a school that had a great business school and math classes. Lehigh is also known for its engineering program, so I assumed the math program would be great as well.

Course Curriculum

10

I thought it was very vigorous. I think the main problem in the math program was that your grades were heavily dependent on your professor. For example, there were easy professors, very difficult professors, great professors who were easy to understand, and then not so great ones.

Exams

SAT; did not have to take anything another test for applying to Lehigh nor placing out of any specific classes; if that option was chosen, you would need to take a test to place out of an entry-level course.

Placement

9

Great, almost be entire friend group had jobs by the beginning of March. If not, they were most likely already accepted into their graduate school program to further their education. Over 90% of Lehigh's graduates either further their education or have a job within 6 months of graduating.

Internship

No; I had to look for one with the career center. You can work closely with the career center and their internship/job recommendations, but there was no co-op program that Lehigh paired with. The center and the website were very helpful though.

Events

10

The math department mainly just had a luncheon every year to acknowledge the students with the highest math GPA for the year. We also sometimes had guest speakers come in to discuss their work with us and to present.

Fees

No extra fees for the arts and sciences college specifically, but there was like a $200 technology fee every semester.

Scholarship

Yes; you complete your FAFSA and other college board application (~$25 a year). If your parents own a business, they also have to do a supplement for every business they own. Lehigh also has a financial aid application that needs to be filled out as well.

Examination Structure

A lot of the math exams were open-ended. Personally, I liked that because then if you had something incorrect but it was just a minor error, you could receive partial credit. Some people didn't enjoy it because they would have to show their work and wouldn?t be able to guess.

Faculty

7

I have had several fantastic professors who I learned a lot from and retained that knowledge.

Hostel

8

I lived in a dorm for one year, sorority house two years, and off-campus one year. I didn't have problems with any of these living situations. By my senior year, I was ready to live on my own, so my friends and I leased a house for a year.
