The Department of Mathematics of University of Pittsburgh offers programs leading to the Master of Arts (MA) and the Master of Science (thesis) (MS) degrees with a major in applied mathematics.
The program is flexible in order to meet the needs of students whose specializations may vary widely.
The main requirements for these degrees are the maintenance of a B average in course work and the passing of a Master of Arts oral exam or the writing of a Master of Science thesis.
Although it does not have to be as extensive or original as a PhD dissertation, a Master of Science thesis should clearly demonstrate the student's mastery of the chosen topic.
The number of courses and the flexibility in choosing the courses depend on the specific program.
The Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees require 24 credits, whereas the Master of Arts in applied math requires 30 credits.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in a related subject from a recognized university.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for the program.

Indian Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
