New Delhi: Around 3 Indian Universities including University of Madras (MU), Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), and Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM Hyderabad) have partnered with the University of Melbourne and rolled out a new Bachelor of Science (BSc) dual degree programme.
The BSc dual degree programme will provide Indian students an opportunity to study at home and abroad, initially for two years in India and then for two years in Melbourne. Indian students after successfully completing the dual degree programme will receive a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne. The option of earning the degree from a local institution will be available to the students.
By enrolling up to six master's subjects in their final year, students can also expedite the completion of a master's degree programme in the range of fields, including physics, engineering, public health, and data science.
Praising the introduction of the new B.sc degree, Dr. S. Gowri, vice chancellor of the University of Madras, stated that the institute is proud of its long-standing connection with the University of Melbourne, and they're delighted to offer another international learning opportunity to the students. The level of interest in the existing Bachelor of Science (Blended) program demonstrates that they are enjoying the options and opportunities that internationalised education creates, Gowri added.
Dr. Karbhari Vishwanath Kale, Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, cited the introduction of the BSc dual degree programme as beneficial for faculties and researchers in exchange for technology transfer. Further, he added that the Bachelor of Science Dual Degree is aligned to India's National Educational Policy, which encourages exchange and interaction with prestigious international institutions like the University of Melbourne.
The students lay the groundwork necessary to pursue opportunities abroad and graduate with a degree that will allow them to create their own futures, Kale said.
Commenting on the introduction of the new programme, Vice-Chancellor of GITAM, Professor Dayananda Siddavattam, said that the future generation of scientists and STEM leaders will be educated and empowered by the Bachelor of Science Joint Degree, which the institute is offering in collaboration with the University of Melbourne.
At Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, these students will get access to the best domestic prospects, and they will be able to broaden their perspectives and graduate study options by studying abroad at the University of Melbourne.
Announcing the dual degree programme during the visit of Prime Minister of Australia’s Trade Delegation to India, Duncan Maskell, Vice-Chancellor, University of Melbourne, said that the newly created dual degree is the obvious progression from the University of Melbourne's co-designed and quality-assured Bachelor of Science (Blended), which is currently offered.
The University of Melbourne is excited to expand these programmes to provide more Indian students with clear pathways for graduation. The university is further delighted to collaborate with esteemed local universities and become a part of the internationalisation of education in India and at home in Australia as demand for the existing programmes continues to rise, he concluded.
