Because of what I wanted to study, it is the best in the country. I also wanted to move out of home, so the opportunity to move interstate to study at a university known for its intercollegiate was really appealing.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum for law has given me a lot of variety to follow different interests. There is also excellent availability of courses outside the regular semester weeks. I didn?t like any of the International Relations compulsory courses, but really enjoyed my electives.
Exams
I took the Queensland QCS test - achieved an A. I have a Distinction average across my university exams.
Placement
The college has excellent placement and job opportunities in law, I didn?t come across any in my Arts degree. However, the placements are hugely competitive because while they exist, they are quite limited and therefore often become exclusive to the highest achieving students.
Internship
No.
Events
The college celebrates many events. There are a lot of week-long occasions marked - e.g. women's week, spoon week (a disability awareness week), sex and consent week, Pride week. There is a big orientation week held each semester. Important national days are also marked.
Fees
Fees are largely paid by students via HECS or up front. There is also a Student Services and Amenities Fee, which goes toward service provision.
Scholarship
Yes, I received a National Merit Scholarship based on my high school grades. I receive the scholarship at the start of each semester.
Examination Structure
There are two designated exam periods each semester. There are also a lot of mid-semester exams. Exams are usually 1-3 hours long, and the type of exam varies based on the course being studied. I have taken short answer, multiple choice, essay, and problem question exams.
Faculty
I have really appreciated the opportunity to have been taught by so many leaders in different fields, but unfortunately I have had the experience that students really only get the chance to know academics on a personal/mentorship level late in their degrees. It would be really good if they were available/more approachable in the early years.
Hostel
I lived for three years on campus in a catered residential hall. This was excellent to start university in as it offered a very supportive environment, with many sport, arts, and social opportunities. I then moved out, and now live in a share house off campus.
