Only one of two reputable universities providing my degree and this one allows for better involvement in campus life (the other option was Sydney Conservatorium of Music and being on a separate campus and only having 750 students limits opportunities).
Course Curriculum
Issues are evident in the compression of the material in the switch from semesters to trimesters but other than that, the classes cover most bases pertaining to a holistic and well-rounded music education thus far.
Exams
HSC (higher school certificate), ATAR of 79.9. This combined all internal high school marks and final external exams. Prior to this was NAPLAN testing but this is not considered for university admission.
Placement
None of this has really been discussed with the first year cohort. It seems as though career options have been made more clear for those doing dual degrees, especially music education (again I have nothing more to say).
Internship
No, to my knowledge there is no internship and if there is, it isn't offered to first years. This whole required words thing with your survey is super annoying I could've just said no and been done with this
Events
The university as a whole celebrates important social events such as Mardi Gras and international women's day and individual societies are welcome to celebrate and share their individual cultural days. There are also student wellbeing initiatives such as stress less week.
Fees
The fees are paid through HECS (the Australian government lends students money when provided with the relevant tax file number. Then, when the individual is earning in a high enough tax bracket, it is paid as taxes. The whole process is interest-free). An average term for BMus (performance) at UNSW costs around $2300, not including mandatory ensemble fees, textbooks and instruments/maintenance. $480 per trimester is subsidized for private tuition.
Scholarship
No.
Examination Structure
The exam structure is fine once you figure it out, but there are hidden tasks that you have to find in the depths of Moodle and arent on the primary course outline as you'd expect. It would be useful to have all the assessment information in one place for a particular course.
Faculty
Disorganized at times but knowledgeable and clearly well-versed in the material and expected outcomes for the course. Some more communication between the lecturer/tutor for certain subjects could be beneficial.
Hostel
I live in my parent's house still as any other accommodation is exorbitantly priced and near impossible to afford without moving even further away. I commute 2 hours each way by both bus and train. Frankly, I haven't heard of this sort of travel being commonplace overseas but here it's not unusual in the slightest.
