The Doctor of Philosophy allows students to pursue a detailed research investigation in an area of interest and findings in a thesis. Students will create new knowledge and develop a thorough understanding of scholarly debate in students' field, and enhance students' capacity to critically analyze and constructively contribute to that debate. It gives the opportunity to make an original and significant contribution to knowledge in chosen disciplines within the sciences.

The PhD program in Agricultural Sciences through the Faculty of Agriculture is the first doctoral degree in Agricultural Sciences offered in Atlantic Canada. This thesis-based program will allow students to pursue advanced-level knowledge in agriculture and develop expert skills in their discipline of focus, while producing original, high-quality research that will impact audiences ranging from international scholars to local farmers. Through the PhD program in Agricultural Sciences, doctoral students will become independent, competent, critical thinkers who will be ready for a wide range of career options in academia, private industry, and government.
Students in the PhD in Agricultural Sciences program will join an intellectually and socially vibrant university community of professors, instructors, dedicated staff, undergraduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and fellow graduate students.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students have qualified for the award of a Master by Research at an acceptable level.
- Students must appropriate Bachelor's degree with class 1 or class 2(i) honors from an Australian university or an equivalent overseas tertiary institution, taken over a minimum of four years (full-time equivalent).
- Students need to have qualified for the award of a coursework Master’s degree with a research project and thesis/dissertation component. It is normally expected that a grade equivalent to the appropriate class of Honours will have been obtained.
- Some other appropriate combinations of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications (such as relevant graduate diplomas) and research experience demonstrate the capacity to undertake research at a Doctoral level.
Indian Eligibility:
- Students need to have a minimum of a first-class or upper second with a minimum of 60-80% on an institutional basis in a graduate degree.
- Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

- Academic records: The marks statement provided by the education board after completion of the previous academic qualifications.
- Three Letter of Recommendation: A recommendation letter should include information about the student, their connection with the person they are recommending, why they are qualified, and the specific skills they have.
- Statement of Purpose - This is an essay or any written statement written by the student while applying.
- Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores and Successful applicants typically provide a score in the 50th percentile.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all educational institutions students have attended.
