University of Alberta, Immunology and infection

The University of Alberta is close to the family for me. It is located in Edmonton where my grandparents and cousins live. I also chose U of A because of its reputation and status among universities in Canada are exemplary.

Course Curriculum

It is very challenging. I struggle a lot with the amount of work we get but I love the topics. Because I am so fascinated by immunology it makes the struggle worth it. The classes are also solely based on exams for the most part which I do not like.

Fees

I pay around 20 grand a year to attend university. There is very little support offered to students that come from outside of Edmonton and tuition rises every year. It is much too expensive in my opinion especially since most science students can't get a job out of undergrad anyways.

Examination Structure

Exams are very difficult and a time crunch. I am not great at writing exams so I struggle a lot with getting good grades. Exam week is exhausting and a lot of the time students have multiple exams on the same day.

Faculty

I love the stuff I am learning but some of the profs don't seem to understand that we have many other courses when they assign work. The faculty has very little time to devote to students because there are so many of us in science. Our advisors don't know us and don't give great advice either.
