I chose the university mainly for the academic program as it is prestigious and has a good name. Also, the community that the U of A has built is inclusive and quite welcoming especially for myself as I am from out of province.

Course Curriculum

6

This course is fair, but not a light course load. Classes are big and you will often face professors and teaching assistants that do not want to be there or are teaching classes they do not enjoy.

Placement

4

There are job opportunities on-campus and throughout the associations of the university, however, the positions are very competitive and not that plentiful. The chances of you acquiring a position are not that high.

Internship

Yes, but only in certain programs and only certain students with less demanding course loads or those willing to take an extra year to finish their bachelor's participation.

Events

6

Pride, aboriginal week, mental health week, sexual awareness week, etc, were all celebrated by our school. More events could be planned with greater student body involvement and school side events.

Fees

Many mandatory fees add up to the cost of an additional class. There are also too many add-on items such as tophat you have to pay for.

Scholarship

I received scholarships from the province of BC, for doing well academically. I also received financial aid from my bank and school district for leadership skills.

Examination Structure

The exam structures are multiple-choice, short answer, long answer, and essays. They range from 50-120 minutes for the midterm and 1:30-3:00 hours for the final. Although this seems like a lot of time many exams are long and difficult to complete within the time frame.

Faculty

5

Good, and quite hard to get into. Best in Alberta, however, could have better programs as a faculty and increased community events.

Hostel

5

On-campus, dorms were an amazing way to meet people. I was in a cohort so there were peers to mentor me and clubs/activities to join.
