McGill has a good reputation as a major university, with some prestige. Also, it is in Montreal which is a large and multicultural city. I wanted to leave home, but not the country so that I can have some independence but still be close to my family so I can visit. Also, it offered a special concurrent program for food science and nutrition.

Course Curriculum

7

I like the curriculum because it combines two majors, nutrition and food science, allowing us to get insight into both fields and finishing two degrees in 5 years. it combines chemistry, biology, microbiology, anatomy, nutrition, and many other fields, so I've had a good chance to explore many areas of knowledge. However, due to the condensed nature of the program, I feel there may be some core courses I did not take in either food science or nutrition, so my education and experience may not be as complete as someone who majored in just 1.

Placement

6

I do not know, as I have not yet explored this very much. The internship office is not always very up to date, unfortunately, but they do have a website with job and internship opportunities posted. occasionally there will also be emails sent out.

Internship

NSERC student research projects, and two other opportunities for international students. It was a good opportunity to learn and gain experience, and I was given about 6000$ total for a summer. We also have an internship office to find opportunities outside of the school.

Events

6

We celebrate founder's day, which celebrates the birthday of the founder of our campus, William Macdonald. We also have a remembrance day ceremony. Some other events include Homecoming, the beginning of the year bbq, and an end of the year bbq as well. other events held by the student society include Bull Night, Casino night, Halloween party, Christmas potlucks, Chinese New Year celebrations, Chocolate party, Wine and Cheese, and various networking events.

Fees

The fee structure for myself is that I am charged about 250$ for each credit in my courses, as I am an out of province student. I think it is different for international students and in-province students. I also pay fees for general administration, gym fees, student society fees, and various association fees.

Scholarship

There is no application process for most scholarships, as you are automatically considered if you are a full-time student. There are other scholarships that do require an application, such as an athletic scholarship. For bursaries or work-study programs, you complete an application online.

Examination Structure

It depends on the professor and the class. some classes do not have an exam, and will instead have a project or something similar. Usually, exams are 3 hours long and can be multiple choice, written, essay format, case studies, etc. I have also had take-home exams. It really depends on the course.

Faculty

7

I think the faculty are very approachable, much more than the downtown campus. Some are not very good educators, but I have also had many teachers that genuinely care about the well being of students and make an effort to enrich our learning experience.

Hostel

5

I live in residence, in EcoResidence here on campus. it is an apartment style, so you can live with 6 people per house or 2 people per house, with a shared kitchen and dining room, and your own bedroom, as well as 4 bathrooms. I have lived here consecutively for many years. There are no cafeterias available on this campus so we are expected to cook for ourselves. we also have a dorm style rez, and some students choose to live downtown or in the small town nearby.
