Students will work on important issues affecting society today, like conservation and the changing climate’s effect on human systems.
UVic’s location on Vancouver Island gives students easy access to marine and alpine ecosystems, freshwater wetlands, rivers, lakes, and a temperate rainforest for fieldwork.
This degree is research-focused (i.e., thesis or dissertation option) and is supplemented by nominal coursework designed to build knowledge and enhance research- and career-related skills.
The program involves students in coursework and research proposal development in year one, followed by independent research pursuits and thesis writing in year two.
The MSc program consists of a minimum of 19 units.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students must have an undergraduate degree in geography or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
A grade point average of 6.0/9.0 (B+ average) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Students must complete a Bachelor’s (4 years) degree in geography or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
