  • The McGill-Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) Neotropical Environment Option (NEO) is a research-based concentration for M.Sc. or Ph.D. students in the departments of Anthropology, Biology, Bioresource Engineering, Geography, Natural Resource Sciences, Plant Science, and Political Science at McGill University.
  • The NEO is aimed at students who wish to focus their graduate research on environmental issues relevant to the Neotropics and Latin American countries. The typical NEO student has a very strong interest in conservation because NEO courses focus on conservation issues.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have an Honours degree in Sciences.
  • Students holding a degree whether in Sciences or another discipline may also be eligible for admission.
  • A GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 is required to apply for this program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

  • Indian students need to maintain an overall average of 60% in each year.
  • The minimum GPA required is 3.0/4.0 or students must have B grade in their degree.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
