St. Xavier's College, Ranchi was started by the Ranchi Jesuit Society, on July 3, 1944. The college offers a number of Undergraduate, Postgraduate as well as Vocational courses. The major courses offered by the college includes BBA, B.Sc, B.Ed, B.Com, BA, and MCA. The admission criteria is different for each program. The college also reserves seats for students belonging to various categories. The reservation of seats for different categories at St. Xavier’s Ranchi are: General - 50%, OBC - 27%, SC - 15%, and ST - 8%.

Admission to most of the UG courses are based on the merit of the candidates and they don’t need to appear for any entrance test.
However, for all the PG courses except M.Com, the college conducts separate entrance tests in order to evaluate the candidates.
For the vocational courses, the candidates need to sit for the entrance test and go through the interview round in order to get selected for the course.

St. Xavier’s Ranchi offers B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com programmes as undergraduate courses. Both the B.A. and B.Sc. courses are offered with seven different honours subject.

St. Xavier’s Ranchi offers Master’s degree in Arts with six different subjects namely English, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, Geography and History along with Master’s degree in Commerce and Journalism and Mass Communication.

All these courses are for a duration of two years and candidates applying for these courses must have attained Bachelor’s degree in the concerned field. Apply for PG Courses

St. Xavier’s Ranchi also offers Master in Computer Application (M.C.A.) degree for the graduates in Computer Applications. The MCA course is offered for a duration of two years.

The application procedure for the M.C.A.course start in the month of June and the eligible candidates need to sit for an entrance test conducted by Department of Computer Science in the college.

Other than the UG and PG courses, St. Xavier’s college also offers eight different vocational courses which is designed to prepare the students for the job market. These courses are for a duration of three years.

The application for the Vocational courses start by the month of May and student who have completed their 10+2 examination with atleast 50% marks is eligible to apply.

The eligible candidates need to appear for the entrance test and the candidates who are shortlisted after the entrance test are invited by the college for the Interview round.
