Aravind memana Review at Technical University Munich [TUM], Munich | Collegedunia

The bitter and sweet experiences of studying abroad.

A
7.2 /10

The best in Germany, competitive and has multiple networking opportunites and events.

Course Curriculum :

My course was a dual Programme, collaborated with TUM and NTU Singapore.I had the privilege to gain access to two state of the art engineering university giants.the course was intensive with heavy mathematics. Moreover had many labs and group activites.the courses were offered as a block course of 10 days and the 14th day will be an exam.it was very intensive, however the classes from the faculty were enriching and valued its worth in Gold.

Exams :

My scores GRE 150 Verbal Quant 158 Writing 3,Toefl score 97/120.Didn't have to take more tests for the admit to realise. However a decent GATE score is recommended.

Placement :

There is no campus placements as hyped in the Indian system. There are multiple trade fairs, wherein the companies come and hire. One must be able to network effectively and achieve those key points of contact.Ideally after masters, a research career or a PhD is most sought after. The academic career is one that gets most respect and remuneration well.Sales would also work great.

Events :

Half of my course duration was in Singapore and the rest in Munich. In Singapore,we had the privilege to use the Olympic track and pool in a huge campus of NTU with many activites.I was a contributor in the String orchestra, toastmasters and in karate. In Munich, the primary focus was on the internship and thesis. However I made it a point to resume karate at the centre of sports under the university. Moreover I was selected to play in an orchestra outside campus called English speaking munich ensemble. It was an honor to play with people of many countries in a 17th century castle hall.

Scholarship :

DAAD scholarship amounting to 6000 euros.

Faculty :

The classes were in a batch upto 30 students .Tough subjects like flight control had only 6-8 students. Many members of the faculty were industry stalwarts and directors of the institutes. A professor who definitely had an impact on me was Prof Florian Holzapfel, the director of Institute of Flight system Dynamics,TU Munich. He had an amazing way to teach students with so much energy and passion. All the students were involved ,despite the subject was the most challenging of the course.

Hostel :

Accomodation has been always a challenge in both the places .I had to stay outside the campus for 4 months in Singapore in a shared apartment. That costed about 400 sgd a month including utilities.later received the hostel Accomodation in ntu for a year. The campus housing was shared with all essential facilites and an air-conditioning unit. This unit was pre-paid and a card is essential to run.High speed internet, electricity is included. Availing a fridge is additional with a surcharge.in munich the Accomodation is super difficult. The waitlist for a student Accomodation is about 18 months. I stayed for 5 months under the guest house of my bachelor university ,followed by subletting rooms from then for 15 months.the room rents varies from 270€ to 370€ a month.
