The self-financed two-year Part-time /one-year Full-time Master of Arts Programme in Music was established in 2004. It has earned a reputation for providing quality instruction in both western and non-western traditions, as well as practical studies. A wide range of courses are offered, including western, Chinese and world music cultures, pop and film music in Hong Kong, music management and promotion, practical composing and arranging, information technology in music, and music interpretation. Various other learning activities outside the classroom are also available.

Programme History

• The Master of Arts Programme in Music was established in the 2004 with an average admission of 35 students.
• The MA Programme in Music lays its foundation on the Department's strong experience in running the first and only part-time undergraduate music degree Programme in Hong Kong since 1982, producing 346 graduates to date.
• A full-time mode is introduced in 2012, mainly for non-local students.

• The Programme is committed to maintaining the high quality of its graduates through rigorous academic instruction in both western and non-western musical traditions, as well as through practical studies that equip students with the critical skills and acumen in areas that they will need to succeed in an increasingly globalized society.
• The Programme sees the importance of a renewed understanding of musical cultures as the point of departure for anyone seeking to further their interest in music at a postgraduate level.
• The Programme addresses the need not only of those who currently work in the music field but also music lovers from other professions who have a strong musical background.
