The course starts assuming you have no prior knowledge of German. If you already have prior knowledge of German, you can, of course, join the course midway through. Initially, key topics from day-to-day life are addressed, for example food, leisure and living. The range of topics is gradually extended until it also includes abstract topics such as mobility and globalization. You work in the group to learn about basic German grammar in a systematic way and with clear progression. You learn to express yourself in German in a spontaneous and fluent way, and learn to understand native speakers easily with the help of listening exercises. You read all kinds of texts, from literary to scientific texts, and practice writing such texts yourself; in the beginning short emails and personal letters, building up to reports and presentations. Internal interim tests (A1, A2 and B2) help you to monitor your learning progress and to assess it correctly. In addition to the TestDaF examination, you have the option of taking part in further accredited language examinations, such as the German test for immigrants (A2-B1) or the German B2 and C1 examinations.
