OET was designed in the late 1980s by Professor Tim McNamara, under the guidance of NOOSR. The Occupational English Test is an English language test for people interested in the healthcare sector. This examination generally tests the communication skill of healthcare professionals. OET is available in case of 12 professions namely, dentistry, dietetics, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, radiography, speech pathology, and veterinary science. The test has been researched and developed continuously since the time it has been introduced so as to ensure that it has kept up with current theory and practice in language assessment. OET is recognised in many countries such as Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA, Ireland, Dubai, Singapore, Namibia, Ukraine and many others as this test gives a proof of a candidate’s ability to communicate effectively in the healthcare sector.
