I chose particular program because I was interested in the ways in which disciplines like Philosophy and literature overlap and build each other. Plus I was very much interested in postcolonial philosophy so the school offered me modules that met my interests. The course was very interdisciplinary and I could take subjects from across various departments. The university is very student friendly and learning is very holistic. I thoroughly enjoyed my student life.
Course Curriculum
Research was a mandatory part of my course. The course curriculum was very deep and relevant for the contemporary world. The teaching was amazing and student classroom presentations were the best way to make the class interactive.
Exams
IELTS my score 8.minimum score requires by the school 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in every band.
Placement
I never applied for jobs. But the placement rate is pretty high from what I know. The UCD Career Development Centre helps students in their careers including conducting monthly job fairs and CV workshops.
Internship
None
Events
There are many societies that students can sign up. I signed up for the Indian society, the international students society, dance society, philosophy society, literature society. I used gym facilities for a year and it is free for students. Apart from that we had events such as diwali, movie nights, holi, and Bollywood nights. So you would never miss out on anything that is fun. There are jacuzzis too. The university helps students with medical and psychological issues as well. You have licensed therapists and counsellors. The student Union is the backbone of the university I would say and the elections are conducted fairly encouraging all students to vote. They are the best.
Fees
18300 Euros/ year.
Scholarship
I got the MA Newman Scholarship from the School of Philosophy that covered my entire tuition for my studies. It was endowed by the Newman Trust in Ireland. It was a special scholarship that was only given to two students in the school. I fulfilled a thesis requirement where I wrote my MA thesis on John Henry Newman and I got the scholarship after submitting a 1000 word proposal.
Faculty
I studied in the School of Philosophy and my professors were the best. They were very approachable and were always open to appointments. The staff was really cooperative and answered my questions and responded to my problems patiently. My favorite professor in the department was Dr Danielle Petherbridge and studying her modules really opened up new horizons for me in terms of doing my PhD in a related field. In addition to that the course that I took with Dr Jeanne Riou helped me understand cultural theory better. She was a professor in the department of languages and literatures.
