Sriram Jayaraman Review at University Of Waikato, Hamilton | Collegedunia

Research for a secure digital future - University of Waikato

Reputed program with a dedicated cyber security, the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum offers an overview of the entire cyber security landscape. It provides the baseline of everything in the domain. However, the course is driven towards research and academia and industrial exposure is something the student is expected to reach to via networking and other opportunities.

Exams :

IELTS min. average 7, with no individual band less than 7. TOEFL, PTS are also accepted.

Placement :

The course is research oriented and aspirants can easily transition from the research in the later part of the course to a PhD with scholarship and grants. Note that in case of a PhD, students only incur domestic costs irrespective of residency status in New Zealand.

Internship :

No

Fees :

$53,065 NZD - 180 point course (International student cost)

Scholarship :

The university provides lots of scholarships based on academic excellence and cultural/sporting grounds. Most of them require LoRs and SoPs specific to the scholarship.

Faculty :

Most faculty are approachable and have in-depth understanding & most likely have vested research interests in the papers that they are taking. The faculty to student ratio is pretty good.

Campus Life :

The Hamilton campus has almost all facilities you could need and others can be arranged upon request. The vibrant student community has a lot of activities to engage in, based upon one's own interest. The sporting scene is pretty good with a lot of social and professional clubs into different sports.

Hostel :

On campus accommodation provides a vibrant and diverse outlook to university life. However, I would recommend off campus flatting, as it is way cheaper and prepares us for onward life out of university. The renting situation in Hamilton is not as bad as other major cities in New Zealand such as Auckland and Wellington. With proper research and time into flatting, we can find comfortable living environments around $150 NZD inclusive of all bills such as electricity and internet.
