137 Colleges of 5 Districts in Himachal Pradesh to Come Under Sardar Patel University

New Delhi: 137 colleges from five districts in Himachal Pradesh are to come under the newly opened Sardar Patel University (SPU) in Mandi. The rest of the 165 colleges in the remaining seven districts are to come under the Shimla based Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has given his approval for the establishment of the new Sardar Patel University in Mandi along with the Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla. The decision was taken in the State Cabinet meeting conducted on Monday, May 9, 2022.

137 colleges from areas such as Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu district will be under the supervision of SPU and rest of the 165 colleges from Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Kinnaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Una Districts will be under the supervision of HPU.

Along with the aforementioned decision, the cabinet also decided to fill up the 200 vacant posts of Ayurvedic Medical Officers in the Ayush Department. 52 posts among these seats will be filled through direct recruitment and recruitment of the remaining 48 seats will be on the basis of batches. The Government also has decided to fill the 100 posts of Ayurvedic Pharmacists in the Ayush Department on contractual basis, as stated by the spokesperson.

During the meeting, the authority also decided to increase the financial assistance being provided to the Cow Sanctuaries and Gau Sadans from the existing INR 500 to INR 700 per cow per month.
