3 J&K Medical Colleges Sanctioned with INR 15 Cr by SEC for additional COVID-19 Setups


Department of Information and Public Relations, Jammu and Kashmir, stated through a press release, that three government medical colleges have been sanctioned Rs 5 Crore each to fight COVID-19 crisis in the state.

A total fund of INR 15 Crore was sanctioned under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to be equally divided among the three colleges, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical SciencesGovernment Medical College of Srinagar and Kashmir. 

The fund has been granted to set up more COVID-19 testing laboratories and procure equipment for the state, to fight COVID-19 situation in J&K.

As the MHA guidelines mention, SDRF funds for COVID containment can be used for setting additional testing labs and availing PPEs at government medical colleges and hospitals. The sanctioned fund is additional to funds granted to the Health Department of the state over the year.

The sanctioned fund is expected to be utilised in developing personal protective equipment, and other efforts for preventing COVID containment. 

To be specific, the fund has been facilitated by the Health Department of J&K. The announcement was made at a Subject Expert Committee (SEC) meeting, spearheaded by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, as on Thursday.
