AICTE Declares BVoc to be Regarded at Par with Diploma In Engineering, BSc for Lateral Admission into BTech


New Delhi: AICTE clarifies that for lateral admission to engineering courses, the Bachelor of Vocation courses will be regarded on par with a Diploma in engineering or a B.Sc degree.

The official notification of AICTE reads,” "It is therefore clarified that BVoc course is treated at par with Diploma in Engineering and B.Sc degree for the purpose of admission in B.Tech or BE program through lateral entry".

A candidate must have passed a minimum of three years diploma examination in any discipline of engineering and technology to be admitted to the B.Tech and BE programmes through lateral entry to the second year, according to the council. 

According to the AICTE, a B.Sc degree from a recognised university and passing Class 12 tests with mathematics as a subject are also required.

Recently, AICTE has announced the eligibility criteria to apply for B.Tech, BE Course admission process through lateral entry to the 2nd year for session 2022. Candidates who wish to seek lateral entry to the engineering program such as B.Tech and BE are required to meet the criteria released by the council. Those who do not meet the qualifications will not be selected for admission.

Earlier, AICTE has permitted students to apply for the BE or B.Tech Admission 2022 process to other branches of the engineering programs through lateral entry. The decision was made after receiving several requests to include engineering programs under lateral entry admission.

In addition, the AICTE has also directed its approved institutes and colleges to offer various courses in the field of mathematics, physics, engineering drawing, and other domains.
