May 18, 2021: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recently launched a project on cybersecurity management, named eSaksham, which aims to train college students, and teachers in the field of cybersecurity. 

AICTE digital program, eSaksham was launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and CyberPeace Foundation (CPF) during an online zoom meeting. 

The launch was attended by the Chairperson of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Professor Anil D Sahasrabudhe, along with Buddha Chandrasekhar, Chief Coordinating Officer of AICTE. 

Additionally, Lieutenant General (Dr) Rajesh Pant (Retd), National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC), and Captain Vineet Kumar, Founder, and President, CyberPeace Foundation were also present at the launch.

As per the NASSCOM report of 2020, India has a shortage of one million cybersecurity professionals, and it is expected that the labor crunch will reach about 3.5 million unfilled jobs by 2021 in the cybersecurity domain. 

The main aim of the digital awareness program on cybersecurity is to build an ecosystem where the research work and projects can be transformed into market-ready projects.

Referring to the launch of Project eSaksham, Professor Sahasrabudhe stated, “Everyone wants to be happy and safe. As civilization grew and we developed the World Wide Web, there were new challenges thrown to us”

“The eSaksham project will teach the participants how to identify and mitigate those challenges. Indian students are already very tech and IT savvy, participating in the eSaksham training will be a way to contribute to society” he further added.

The eSaksham project will include a training session, which will be conducted at four levels. It is expected that a total of 5 lakh students and college educators will participate in the project, and will be trained in the cybersecurity domain through online sessions. 

Additionally, a total of 25000 CyberPeace Corps volunteers along with 500 CyberPeace fellows will be created as a part of the digital program, and over 50 CyberPeace Clubs will also be launched across India.
