New Delhi: All India Council for Technical Education has prolonged its two year restriction on the establishment of new engineering colleges with some exemptions to start new polytechnics in traditional, emergent, multidisciplinary, vocational sectors, including PPP mode.

AICTE has Extended the Two Year Prohibition on Establishment of New Engineering Colleges

The AICTE would evaluate proposals from state governments to start new polytechnics in traditional, emergent, multidisciplinary, vocational sectors, including PPP mode, under the exceptions given under the moratorium. Any business with a minimum annual revenue of Rs 5000 crore in the previous three years that is incorporated as a trust, society, or corporation is also free. Exemptions have also been made for private foundations that have been in operation for more than 25 years and that run other educational establishments with a minimum enrolment of 10,000 students and an NIRF score of less than 100 the previous year.

More than 40% of the fundamental elements previously sought by the Council from its accredited institutions are NEP compliant, according to AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe. He also added “It is pertinent to mention that in the previous academic year the Council took a step forward to diminish the subject barrier by including a total of 14 subjects studied in various school education boards across the country to make them eligible for pursuing technical education courses offered by the Council. The same gained quite a traction across the academia in the country. To clear the perception of Multiple Entry Multiple Exit (MEME) and bridge courses, the Council in its APH this year has included an eligibility table depicting course wise subject eligibility for admission to various branches of Engineering & Technology,”.
