According to the AICTE's new handbook, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are not required for students to study in Class 12 in order to apply for undergraduate architecture courses.

PCM Subjects are not Mandatory

The council has also extended the same relaxation to Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology courses, in addition to Architecture. For undergraduate admittance to these courses, students will not be needed to study PCM subjects at the 12th grade level. Earlier in 2021, the council voted to make PCM topics a non-mandatory requirement for technology and engineering programmes at the Class 12 level, which sparked outrage from a number of groups.

Decision Made with Experts Recommendations

Based on the suggestions of an expert panel, the AICTE decided to make PCM topics non-mandatory in Class 12 for Architecture, Fashion Technology, and Packaging Technology. "We had appointed an expert group to provide suggestions on admissions for which courses PCM might be made optional," an AICTE senior official said in this regard.

Three courses have been chosen based on the panel's suggestions." The council has also stated that any student who has studied computer science, electronics, information technology, biology, informatics practices, biotechnology, technical vocational subject, agriculture, engineering graphics, business studies, or entrepreneurship is eligible for admission to the three courses mentioned.
