New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has decided to provide INR 50, 000 to the students pursuing MBBS for research projects.

AIIMS Delhi To Provide Rs 50,000 To MBBS Students For Research Projects

In an effort to encourage medical students to pursue research, the AIIMS Delhi has taken the decision of granting short-term assistance of Rs 50,000 to all 132 undergraduate medical students who are engaged in research.

This programme would be managed, tracked, and assessed using the SARAL student management system, according to an office memo issued in this regard by AIIMS Director M Srinivas.

The following was added to the office document in relation to the possibility of AIIMSonians funding the little initiatives that the possibility that AlIMSonians might fund brief or small projects should be looked into and the AIlMSonians office should write a letter requesting money to assist these students' projects.

In addition, the interested AllMSonians can help the research-inclined students find observer roles in medical research facilities both inside and outside of India. They can use the academic area of the dashboard to preserve this, the office memo added.

Other students may enrol already, despite the fact that freshly admitted students have been told to begin writing to the faculty in this respect after six months after joining.

The following information on Undergraduate Student Mentorship by Faculty is from the Office Memorandum dated November 8, 2022.

Mentoring of undergraduate students in research by faculty:

All the undergraduate students will be encouraged to conduct a research project, in addition to the current "Summer Training Program Fellowships" and UG Research Mentorship projects offered to undergraduates by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS) New Delhi and the Short-Term Studentship-(STS) offered to MBBS/BDS students by the Department of Health Research (DHR) and Indian Council of Medical Research, (ICMR):

  1. All undergraduates will have access to a digital copy of the Research Directory created by the Research Section (especially to the first semester students at their admission into the AIIMS). This describes the primary areas of research focus for the faculty at AIIMS, New Delhi.

The faculty members' email addresses and phone numbers will be provided, and the students will be urged to write to them and arrange to meet them. This will increase their exposure and allow them to match with someone who shares their long-term research interests.

  1. The newly admitted students may start writing to faculty after 6 months of having joined AIIMS. Students of other semesters to enroll now.
  2. After joining AIIMS for six months, newly admitted students are eligible to begin communicating with faculty. enrol now for students in other semesters.

iii. The students might at first be involved with senior lab members' projects. As they pick up the fundamental skills required in that lab, they write a proposal for funding (if necessary) to the research department with their mentor.

  1. This will be a commitment of at least 6-months. It may be longer if the student and the research mentor would like to continue the project work for a longer period.
  2. The topics finalized may be displayed on the website/SARAL after obtaining the necessary ethical clearances (as the case may be- animal, human, stem-cells).
  3. A thorough record of the research training project carried out by the UG students during that academic year should be kept by the departmental UG Faculty coordinator(s).

vii. At the conclusion of that year, the records of the research activity must be submitted to the Registrar's Academic section, duly signed by the UG coordinator(s) of the relevant departments.

viii. The research faculty mentor can/may facilitate collaboration for the work with research teams at universities/research institutes domestically and abroad working in related fields. This will raise the standard of the study and create connections for upcoming partnerships.

  • The Research Section/Academic Section may look into short-term funding for these students (@INR. 50,000 per student far 132 students) in order to fund this in project mode.
  • The option of AlIMSonians funding short/small projects should be explored. Here, a request letter be written through the AIlMSonians office and request for volunteers to fund these students' projects. The interested AllMSonians may also help in mentoring the students interested in research and help them find observer ships in hospitals labs in India and outside India. Academic section to maintain this on a dashboard.
