Atal Innovation Mission Extended by Cabinet until March 2023

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and extended it til March 2023. 

According to the notification, apart from the extension, the Atal Innovation Mission has also been intended with additional targets, that includes the establishment of 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) anf 101 Atal Incubation Centers (AICs). 

Further, the AIM mission will assist and support over 200 startups through the Atal New India Challenges. With the new targets, the total budgeted expenditure of INR 2000 crore+ will be incurred in the process of the establishment and supporting the beneficiaries.

The Union Cabinet chaired by PM @narendramodi has approved the continuation of AIM, till March 2023.

With the team’s assurance, AIM has a greater responsibility to create an inclusive innovation ecosystem, which will increasingly get easier.

About Atal Innovation Mission

Earlier, in 2015, the former Finance Minister announced AIM or the Atal Innovation Mission under the NITI Aayog in the then budget speech. AIM was announced with a primary goal of creating and promoting an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across India. 

So far, the Atal Innovation Mission was deliberated to connect to the key stakeholders at the school, university, research institutions, MSME and industry levels and involve them in this process.

AIM focuses on Infra and Institution Building

According to the official statement, the Atal Innovation Mission’s central point of focus is to create crucial infrastructure and build the necessary institutions to promote innovation. 

The statement released by the government also revealed that AIM-supported startups have raised around INR 2,000 crores plus from the government and private equity investors, while also creating thousands of jobs and providing employment opportunities to the job seekers tier 2 and tier 3 and rural areas. 

At present, the Atal Innovation Mission AIM offers its programme in all the 34 states and Union Territories of the country and are inspiring others to join the innovation ecosystem.

With the cabinet’s approval to continue, AIM has a greater responsibility of creating an inclusive innovation ecosystem, where engaging in innovation and entrepreneurship will get increasingly effortless.
