Being the HOD what are your roles and responsibilities towards students?

"The Head of Department is required to lead, manage and develop the department"

Being a HOD one has to manage and motivate all departmental staff, to enable the students to receive skilled education in the subject, in a positive, encouraging, and effective working environment. And also to ensure the development of the Curriculum to keep up to date with relevant changes and to encourage a wide range of activities to learn the subject with practical skill. The Head of the Department is required to lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"I prefer the way of healthy discussions, which is to discuss new ideas, and strategies"

To develop healthy relations between students and teachers I prefer the way of healthy discussions which are to discuss new ideas, and strategies and know the perspective of fellow teachers and students. This ensures the actual involvement of personnel of the department.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach toward subjects and make it industry-oriented?

"One way is to provide opportunities beyond the classroom in the form of societies, trips, visiting speakers, etc"

History is a theoretical subject so to add a technical touch and be more understandable we make use of PowerPoint presentations which contain pictures, and maps that are easy to understand for the students and to make the lectures more lively, stimulating classroom environments throughout the department in terms of lessons, wall displays and use of resources are ensured. One way is to provide opportunities beyond the classroom in the form of societies, trips, visiting speakers, excursions, and fieldwork in term time.

How do you strategize curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it befitting for the students?

"Development of the Curriculum to keep up to date with relevant changes"

The strategy while writing a curriculum is to focus on the needs of students in a way that ensures the material is understood, maintained, and applied in and out of the classroom. Development of the Curriculum to keep up to date with relevant changes and to encourage a wide range of activities to learn the subject with practical skills along with designing regulations and syllabi.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

"Many of them are placed in government jobs"

In the history department, the students are more inclined towards higher education than master's and also competitive exams. Many of them are placed in govt jobs and others have achieved excellence in higher studies.

How do you help your student cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?

"I am also available to help them with the material and doubts"

I've always encouraged and motivated the students to believe in themselves and work hard, I am also available to help them with the material and doubts at any time and students often reach out to us for guidance.

Do you have any extracurricular activities or programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

"Inculcate new skills and attain the maximum benefit"

Seminars, Conferences, symposiums, workshops, and training programs on topics of relevance and importance to the department are actively organized for the students to inculcate new skills and attain the maximum benefit.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students?

Communicating effectively with the students plays a crucial role in the department. Tests are conducted regularly for the students for better understanding and healthy discussions are conducted to discuss a topic thoroughly. Monitoring teacher or student relationships and providing advice and support when required and providing effective advice and guidance to the students.
