An educationist, leader and administrator, Dr. M. Manickaraj is currently working as Associate Dean at NIBM, Pune. With specialization in the fields of equity markets, banking and carbon finance, he has over 27 years of experience in teaching, research, consultancy, training and academic administration. Also, Dr. M. Manickaraj has been serving at lead positions in projects/programmes in collaboration with many national and international organisations including International Finance Corporation (IFC), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, and Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC), USA.
What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

As a teacher and academic administrator, I can act as an influential stepping stone for many students and can affect their growth in a more productive way. I believe myself to be a mentor who shapes students’ future in terms of career and quality of their life both. Also, education provides me a lot of experience and up to date contents in professional fields across the world on a daily basis.
What is your philosophy of leadership?
“Taking responsibility and accountability”
I believe in participatory management and involving team members in decision-making and organizing processes. I involve my team and students in getting ideas for new initiatives, planning and in execution of tasks leading to fantastic results. As a leader, I am responsible for fulfilling their expectations and accountable for failures.

How does the curriculum at NIBM cover and ensure the best practices of industry?

NIBM curriculum is highly industry oriented and practical and is designed by experienced faculty having insights of industrial practices and processes. NIBM is continuously involved in conducting Executive Development Programmes (EDPs) for senior executives from banks and financial institutions not only in India but also from over 100 different countries, every year. NIBM invites innumerable industry practitioners as guest faculty for addressing our students and top management executives from various banks as full time faculty and as visiting faculty.
What do you think should be the Institute's top priority over the next 10 years?
“Scaling up teaching programmes and international collaborations”
We are headed to offer executive professional programmes for working executives . In coming years, we would offer both on-campus and online education programmes for students and working executives. We also strive to collaborate with institutions abroad to cater to the needs of the youth in various countries and to share the expertise and experience of India abroad. We wish to introduce new education programmes that will offer specialisation in technology in banking such as Fintech, digital currency, AI, Analytics, and so on.
What do you think are your roles and responsibilities towards the institute?
“Attaining global status and empowerment of students”
Maintaining the reputation of the institution is a prime responsibility. We are apex Institute of India in banking with highly talented and hardworking faculty. My responsibility is to create a healthy teaching-learning atmosphere in coordination with all the stakeholders. I need to empower my students and make sure they move forward with a successful professional career that allow them to utilise their knowledge, skills and competencies.
