Calcutta University PhD Geography Admission 2022 Open

New Delhi: The University of Calcutta has invited applications for admission into its PhD programme in Geography for the academic year 2022. 

Candidates interested to apply for the PhD program in Geography from the Calcutta University can go through the eligibility criteria and apply online till March 22, 2022.

The university has planned to intake a total of 19 students for the PhD programme in Geography. The selection procedure will adhere to the following schedule / criteria. All subsequent notifications and changes related to the PhD course will be made in the Notice Board of the Department of Geography.

Calcutta University PhD in Geography 2022: Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates intending to apply for admissions into PhD program in Geography must meet the requisite eligibility criteria, which are, 

• Candidates must hold a master's degree in Geography from a UGC-recognised University. 
• Candidates must hold a degree declared equivalent to Master’s degree by corresponding statutory regulatory body of this University, with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency, recognised by an authority under a law in its home country. 

• A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled and other categories of candidates according to the UGC norms. 
• The Reservation Policy of the Central /State Government will be followed. 

Calcutta University PhD in Geography 2022: Selection Process 

Candidates will be selected for the program based on their performance in the Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the university followed by an interview. 

Candidates who have qualified NET / SET / SLET / MPhil are exempted from appearing in RET–WP and should directly appear for RET–Oral Part (RET–OP) Interview. 

Calcutta University PhD in Geography 2022: Exam Structure 

The Syllabus of RET–WP will be the same as for the latest UGC NET Examination in Geography. 

The structure of RET–WP consists of 30 multiple-choice questions (all compulsory – 2-mark each) and 2 essay-type questions (10-mark each) are to be answered within 2 hours. 

The essay-type questions are to be chosen from two groups—Physical Geography and Human Geography—containing three questions in each. 

Calcutta University PhD in Geography 2022: Application Process

Candidates must submit the filled-in application form, accompanied by a one-page research proposal along with copies of MA/ MSc mark-sheet and NET / SET / SLET / MPhil certificate (if applicable), will have to be submitted at the department office after paying the prescribed fee at the University cash counter.
