New Delhi: On Monday, February 28, 2022, Kerala CBSE School Management Association announced that the age to secure admission at Class 1 will remain 5 years in all the CBSE schools for the current academic year.

This announcement was made right after there were reports that the admission criteria revised the age limit to 6 years.

Earlier, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) made the announcement that a child must be six years of age (on March 31) to seek admission to Class 1 for the academic year 2022-23. Naturally, many parents who were waiting to enrol their children to KVS, began protesting after the announcement and threatened to take the matter to the court. Following this, there were announcements mentioning that many CBSE schools in Kerala would implement the revised age criteria. This created immense confusion among the parents.

As part of the implementation of the National Education Policy, the minimum age to seek admission in Class 1 in Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools for the academic year 2022-23 will be six years. But the Kerala State Government is yet to release any official statement regarding this change of age criteria. Therefore, the admission criteria will remain 5 years only, until any new notice from the concerned authority.
