New Delhi: There are 23 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in India at present of which 19 are operational and the remaining ones are yet to be fully established. 6 AIIMS at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh are encountering faculty shortages even after 10 years of existence.

The Central Government has proposed to rapidly set up educational institutions like AIIMS. However, questions regarding the resolution of the issue of faculty shortages arise.

As admitted by the Union Health Ministry at the Parliament, such high-quality educational institutions are not being able to get competent professors. Amidst such an issue, Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the go-ahead to establish more medical colleges in India due to the return of Indian medical students from war-torn Ukraine.
