Deadline for M.Phil. and Ph.D. students to submit the thesis has been extended by the University Grants Commission (UGC). As per the revised dates, the last date for students to submit the M.Phil. and Ph.D. thesis is June 30, 2021.
The decision to postpone the last date of submission of the thesis was taken considering the widespread COVID-19. The UGC had initially announced that the last day to submit the thesis was on December 31, 2020.
The additional extension has been granted as most of the colleges and universities have remained shut across the nation owing to the crucial pandemic situations. However, it was clearly mentioned that the term of fellowship for the Ph.D. and M.Phil. students will remain 5 years, same as initial.
The official notice read that considering the pandemic as well as the interest of research of scholars, a further delay of six months is granted for the final year M.Phil. and Ph.D. students to submit the thesis as the date has been extended from December 31, 2020, to June 30, 2021.
A recent notification by UGC stated that the universities have already remained closed for several months now due to the ongoing pandemic, because of which the students have not been able to conduct the research experiments in the university labs and were also not able to access the library without which it is difficult to complete the thesis.
The notification further stated that the postponement of six months is allowed for submitting the evidence of publication as well as presentation in two conferences.
