Delhi University to start three new BTech programmes; seeks INR 100 crore from UGC;Check details

Delhi University (DU) is all set to start three BTech programmes under its Faculty of Technology, for which the varsity has sought INR 100 crore from the University Grants Commission (UGC). 

The three BTech programmes will start for various disciplines including Electronics and Communications, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering and DU has sought a whopping amount from the UGC for setting up infrastructure facilities. 

The varsity had submitted a proposal to the UGC requesting the position for teachers and non-teaching staff be sanctioned at the initial stage so that the Btech programmes can be implemented. 

To implement the initiative and further the cause of implementation of NEP 2020 through the introduction of the Btech programmes , the varsity requires a total of INR 100 crore as financial assistance to set up infrastructure facilities in terms of state of the art laboratories, classroom, and other facilities.

According to the proposal shared by DU to the UGC, a total of INR 25 crore would be required annually for the next four financial years with effect from 2021-22. 

The B.Tech programmes will have multiple exit options in line with the NEP 2020, where the students will also receive certificates upon successful completion of one year of study, diploma on exit after completing two, advance diploma on exit after completing three years, and a BTech degree will be awarded upon completion of four years. 

A total of 72 teachers and 55 non-teaching staff would be required for three BTech programmes. 

DU formed a committee under D S Chauhan, former vice-chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University and Uttarakhand Technical University, to deliberate the set up of departments under the Faculty of Technology in the areas of engineering and technology.

The committee will consider the scope and feasibility of the thr departments under the Faculty of Technology, structure and nomenclature of the courses of study.

The departments would also envisage to run, requirement and qualification of the faculty members necessary to conduct teaching, learning and research in the departments in a smooth manner. 

As per the minutes of the committee's meeting, a total of 120 students will be admitted for each programme and there'll be two sections with 60 students each. 

The committee stated that the varsity would intake around 360 students and the total strength over four years duration would be 1,440. The student-teacher ratio would be 1:20.
