DET Interactive Reading Question Overview

DET interactive reading section was introduced in 2022. The DET interactive reading section consists of two short passages. After completing the reading passage, candidates will have to face six questions each. The reading passage types in this section are; narrative style reading, and expository. To be precise, narrative style short passages are constructed with a story. However, expository short passages are a form of academic articles that are to be read by candidates and further answer six questions. The time duration allotted to complete this section is 7 to 8 minutes in total. One of the key points of this section is that candidates can’t access the complete reading passage at once. Rather, a partial section of the passage is revealed as one proceeds with answering the questions.

Marking Criteria in DET Interactive Reading Section

Binary and partial credit are both used in the DET scoring pattern to mark the responses in interactive reading. The multiple-choice format is used for each item in Complete the sentences, Complete the Passage, Identify the Idea, and Title the Passage, leading to a binary grade for each. The distance between a test taker's highlighted text and the correct solution determines how well they perform on the Highlight the Answer task.

The Euclidean distance between the provided and anticipated replies' start and finish positions is used to determine this. All tasks in Interactive Reading can be scored automatically thanks to these scoring procedures. This supports the Duolingo English Test's adaptive design and parallel large-scale test creation and administration.
