Gujarat: UG, PG Medical Admissions to Continue till April-end; Check Details


New Delhi: Admissions to the undergraduate, MBBS and postgraduate medical courses are expected to continue till the end of April 2022 in Gujarat. 

Even after the successful completion of two rounds of UG and PG medical admission process in the state, a total of 252 seats in postgraduate courses and almost 500 seats in the MBBS course are still vacant. 

This year, the academic session of the medical colleges across the state began in the month of February, as a result, the MBBS aspirants who get admitted after April are likely to lose out on two months of education. 

The third-round of the All-India quota admission process, which is currently being held, is expected to be completed till March 30, 2022, after which the third-round of medical admissions for the state quota will commence. 

According to the sources, the fourth round of admissions for the state quota will begin only after the completion of the fourth round of admission for the all-India quota. 

From this year onwards, the union government has made it compulsory to conduct four rounds of admission for the MBBS and PG courses to make sure that the seats are filled and as many as medical aspirants get admitted to the medical colleges. 

The Gujarat PG medical seat allotment of the students will be done based on the NEET PG 2021 rank, choices filled, seats available, reservation criteria and other factors. 

A total of 1285 Doctor of Medicine (MD), 668 Masters of Surgery (MS) and 280 Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) seats will be offered through Gujarat PG medical admission 2021-22. 

In other news, the government has revealed that the number of undergraduate MBBS seats has increased from 51,348 before 2014 to 89,875 now, which is an increase of 75 percent, and that of post-graduate seats has increased by 93% during the same period.
