The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a group of public medical colleges that have been declared as institutes of national importance. AIIMS New Delhi is the parent institute which was established under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956, as a “temple of modern India” to achieve Prime Minister Nehru’s vision of having a centre of excellence in medical sciences in India. Today, it is among the top medical colleges in India. The institute has extensive efficiency for teaching, research and patient care. AIIMS also runs a college of nursing and trains students for BSc (Hons) Nursing post-certificate degrees. At present, AIIMS offers admission to 807 seats, which is available across nine operative institutions — New Delhi, Rishikesh, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Guntur, and Nagpur.

TRENDS IN AIIMS

According to a Press Trust of India report,In 2020 during COVID-19 pandemic time  a total of 33,491 aspirants took the entrance exam. Before the date of exam, Delhi High Court in the judgement of not postponing AIIMS PG exam mentioned that 40,000 aspirants had registered for the test. About 1 lakh students appeared for AIIMS MBBS 2015 entrance exam through offline and online mode for 672 seats in 7 AIIMS-like institutions across India (including 72 MBBS seats in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi).Only about 0.67 % students who took AIIMS 2015 exam were able to clear it. The number of applicants have increased due to a hike in the seats of aiims. In 2017 aiims ug , about 2.8 lakh students appeared . And total mbbs seats were 672. In 2018, few seats have increased (total 700 approx). More than 3 lakh applicants are  gone for it.
