What is JEE

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a national-level engineering entrance exam to be held yearly in India. JEE is basically a common entrance examination for admission to different engineering courses. The test was perceived and conducted in the year 1960 for the first time. It was named Common Entrance Exam (CEE), yet, later it was re-named as JEE (Joint Entrance Exam).

JEE Main is conducted for admission into the top NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), and some other universities. In other words, it is for those candidates who are seeking admission to BE or B.Tech courses in the NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs), and engineering colleges of the participating states

Jee has two types of exam

• JEE MAIN
• JEE ADVANCE 

JEE (Main) exam is the preliminary stage exam to get admissions into the top engineering colleges across the country including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NIT), and other reputed engineering colleges

Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced, formerly the Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination, is an academic examination held annually in India. It is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board.

JEE Main & JEE Advanced exam structure

The JEE Main comprises two papers Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is for those candidates who want admission in BE and B.Tech courses. Paper 2 is for those who want admission in B.Arch and B.Planning courses. However, the candidates are required to specify for which paper they want to appear either Paper 1 or Paper 2 or both.

JEE Advanced is a paper-based test. The candidates are required to appear in both papers 1 & 2 in this exam. The candidates can appear for the JEE Main exam for three consecutive years but can appear for JEE Advanced exams only for two consecutive years.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have passed class 12 or the qualifying exam for the same to apply for the JEE Main exam.

Eligibility for JEE Advanced 

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2021 - Education Minister has declared that the requirement of a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 has been waived off from JEE Advanced 2021 eligibility criteria. IIT Kharagpur will release detailed JEE Advanced 2021 eligibility criteria on the official website along with the application form.

Mode of exam

• B.E. /B. Tech. (Paper 1) Physics, Chemistry, and Maths, parts 1, 2, and 3 respectively will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode only.
• B. Arch (Paper 2) math and Aptitude Test, part 1 and 2 respectively will be held in Computer Based Test mode only. While Drawing Test or part 3 will be in offline mode on a drawing sheet.
• B. Planning (Paper 3) Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Planning Based Questions, part 1, 2, and 3 respectively will be held in Computer Based Test mode only.

• The 31 National Institute of technology
• The 25 Indian institutes of information technology
• 28 JEE Main 2021 Participating Institutes - Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs)
• Several self-financed institutes (during the spot round).
• Many State-affiliated Colleges fill some small percentage of seats through JEE main.

Reservations

In the case of Institutes run by the Central Government, the reservation would be applicable as mentioned below:

• 15% of the seats Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates
• 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates
• 27% seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates as per the Central List*
• 10% of the seats for General Economically Weaker Sections (General -EWS) candidate.
• Persons with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability

JEE Main Subject Wise Syllabus 

Candidates can check the JEE Main syllabus subject wise which comprises of syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, and mathematics. Candidates will have to prepare for each subject in order to score well in the examination. Candidates may use NCERT books in order to prepare for JEE Main 2021. - IIT Kharagpur has released the JEE Advanced 2021 syllabus on the official website. Candidates preparing for the exam must refer to the official syllabus of JEE Advanced 2021.
