New Delhi: IIM Jammu signed an MoU with the Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Department to begin on a mentor-mentee relationship journey for skill revolution in the union territory on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
IIM Jammu Director Sahai and SDD Principal Secretary Asgar Hassan Samoon inked the agreement on behalf of their respective departments and institutions.
An official release stated, “IIM Jammu will work closely with the Department of Skill Development to improve the skill development ecosystem of J&K by mentoring Polytechnics and ITIs and offering management development training programmes to the principals and faculty of these institutes”.
IIM Jammu will assist the SDD in facilitating the establishment of business incubators in selected IITs and Polytechnics to encourage entrepreneurship and create a link between skill development and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, it will support ITIs and Polytechnics in building competitive skills and expanding industry interactions.
The institute would also assist SDD in building capacity by providing 1-2 weeks of training courses for mentoring trainees and faculty at ITI and Polytechnics, as well as training them in developing industry reports, newsletters, and a competitive spirit to help them promote their institutes.
Consulting services such as tracer studies, district skill development strategies, government programme implementation, and assessing skill and training shortfalls will also be provided to SDD by IIM Jammu.
As per the agreement, the SDD would organise frequent visits of selected groups of students from ITIs and Polytechnics to the IIM Jammu campus and facilitate their participation in leadership summits and competitions, among others, to provide students early exposure to competitive ecosystems and upgrade their capacity to compete with top institutions in the country.
