IIM-Sambalpur signs MoU with Flipkart for Promoting Small Businesses ; Check Details Here


New Delhi: IIM Sambalpur signed an MoU with the e-commerce marketplace, Flipkart to promote weavers and artisan business through digital platforms and startup enterprises.

The MoU was signed virtually between Director of IIM Sambalpur Mahadeo Jaiswal and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart Rajneesh Kumar in the presence of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation Usha Padhee. Flipkart and IIM-S will work together to help and promote small businesses, artisans, and weavers by leveraging technology, an e-commerce platform, and market analytics.

According to the MoU, IIM-S will identify clusters of artisans and weavers in Odisha and integrate them in Flipkart's Samarth initiative, which would connect their companies to a pan-India customer base.

Prof Mahadeo Prasad Jaiswal, director of IIM-S, said the association with Flipkart will assist boost the spirit of entrepreneurship by providing possibilities for small businesses and artisans to utilize technology and accelerate growth.

He further added, “By combining institutional learning and practical industry experience, we aim to provide entrepreneurs best practices and deeper insight on how to leverage e-commerce for their growth. We are hopeful that weavers, artisans and farmers will leverage this opportunity to showcase their skills and high-quality traditional heritage products to a national consumer base and reach new heights and recognition”.

The collaboration will also provide possibilities for artisans and weavers to get business management, marketing, and accounting training from IIM-S, as well as research into their pain points and issues. 

For the Samarth programme, Flipkart has collaborated with numerous states throughout the nation, including Odisha.

The collaboration with the Odisha government's State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts (SIDAC) enables renowned Odia brands such as Boyanika, Utkalika, and Sambalpuri Bastralaya, among others, to have access to the pan-India marketplace via Flipkart.
