IIT, IIM Indore Begin First Batch of M.Sc in Data Science Management in Online Mode


New Delhi: IIM Indore teams up with IIT Indore to introduce a joint master’s degree program in data science and management. The two-year program will be held online and include a total of 900 hours of learning and 15 hours of live sessions. 

In recent years, demand for data scientists has been on the rise. The program was launched by IIT and IIM Indore in order to meet the demand for efficient data scientists, and analysts who can help an organisation achieve success. Around 41 individuals have registered for the first batch of this program by IIM and IIT Indore.

The program was inaugurated on March 21, 2022, in the company of Prof. Himanshu Rai, Prof. Suhas Joshi, Director, IIT Indore; Prof. Neelesh Kumar Jain, Former Acting Director and Faculty, IIT Indore; Prof. Amit Vatsa, Programme Coordinator – IIM Indore and Prof. Parimal Kar, Programme Coordinator – IIT Indore, Director, IIM Indore.

This program was launched in an aim to help participants to identify the areas where data science can add value and provide inputs to algorithm developers and data analysts, thereby contributing to creating a business impact.

The Director of IIM, Indore has communicated his happiness over the launch of this program and has also welcomed the new batch. He asked them to have a clear vision as well as imagination and work towards creating a world they want to be a part of.

He concluded with this advice to the students, ‘This world is changing drastically. You need to adapt to the new realities of the world, for the forthcoming years wouldn’t just rely on the survival of the fittest, but also the quickest – who is agile’. 

According to Prof. Suhash Joshi, Director of IIT, Indore, all businesses should have a skilled workforce who have mastered data and science and management tools and techniques. He commented that ‘this comprehensive programme offered by the two leading institutes focuses both on business knowledge and technical skills’.

Prof. Nilesh Jain, former acting director and Faculty, IIT Indore has said that there will be four pillars of the program - data, enterprise strategy, people and technology. The program will also have sessions on programming language, statistical methods, operations and supply chain management, artificial intelligence, database management system, artificial intelligence, machine learning and marketing management.
