The second wave of COVID 19 has been breaking records all over the country. With such a horrifying scenario present, the administration at IIT Delhi had taken an unprecedented step to nullify the role of attendance for the evaluation of it’s undergraduate students.

IIT Delhi has also declared that it will extend the deadlines of the courses for students adversely affected by the pandemic. Also students suffering for more than four weeks will also be considered for relaxation.

The institute had sought students’ opinions on how to continue the online semester. The survey revealed that a total of 857 students (22 per cent) tested positive and 61 percent of students’ immediate family members tested positive.

The course content will be provided to students by May 25, 2021. The last days of the month from May 27 to May 31 will be converted into buffer days for doubt clearing.

A significant number of surveyed students, 43 percent, wanted to halt the semester for a few weeks, while 49 percent were against it. For students other than those in UG first-year courses, an alternative system has been approved.

The decision was taken after a poll was conducted for the under graduation students except the first year. The poll consisted of questions which asked the students whether they or their family members had been hit by this new wave of Coronavirus in the past few weeks and what the students would like to do with the current session that is currently being pursued online. The poll even asked the students if the current session needs to be halted in the current scenario.

For first-year BTech students, the semester will be conducted as per the schedule which already started late last year in the wake of the novel coronavirus. A separate grading system has been created for the post-graduate as well as for students with integrated courses.
