IIT Delhi Alumnus Gifts Endowment of Rs 10 Crore to Support Development Programs: Read Here

New Delhi: The alumnus of IIT Delhi, Amit Sinha has gifted the institute an endowment of Rs 10 crore through Amit and Deepali Sinha foundation. The endowment will be used in setting up several student fellowships, scholarships, and development programs.

With this initiative, IIT Delhi will work towards establishing its one-of-a-kind fellowship program for undergraduate students. Under the fellowship, the top 5 UG students will be offered financial assistance based on their JEE Advance rank. 

Out of 5 selected students, 1 seat will be reserved for the top woman JEE ranker joining the institute. The step has been taken to encourage women in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), said an official statement.

In addition to the fellowship, the institute will also introduce an IIT Delhi Scholarship program to provide financial assistance to 15 students who belong to the weaker section of society. The scholarship program will be offered every year to 15 eligible students. 

IIT Delhi will also establish two faculty chairs with the help of the alumni endowment. The faculty chair will be set up to promote research in electrical engineering and computer science on the campus ground. 

Out of two chairs, one will be set up for Electrical Engineering which will promote research areas like wireless communications, renewable energy, and nanoelectronics. While the second Computer Science chair will promote research in AI, cybersecurity, and quantum computing.

Referring to the contribution, Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said, “I would like to thank Amit and Deepali Sinha for their generous endowment. Alumni contributions are an important resource to enhance an institution’s competitiveness in attracting both students and faculty".

"IIT Delhi is proud of such alumni who serve as role models for our students. It is a testimony to the high regard they have for their institute and an acknowledgment of the role IIT Delhi has played in their careers. We wish them further success" he added. 

Explaining their motivation, IIT Delhi Alumni, Dr. Sinha stated that his contribution to IIT Delhi is a token of his thanks for shaping his life. To express my gratitude to the institute, Amit and Deepali Sinha Foundation have made a contribution.
