IIT Delhi, Madras, Indore, Mandi Welcome New Directors; Check Profile Here


New Delhi: IIT Delhi, Madras, Mandi, and Indore have officially welcomed their new Directors, who were appointed on Monday, January 10, 2022. The government made the new appointment as the outgoing directors of IIT Delhi and IIT Madras were already serving on extension, after their tenures ended in April 2021. 

Hence, the four Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are set to welcome their new directors. Professor Rangan Banerjee from IIT Bombay has been appointed as the new director of IIT Delhi. While the new director of IIT Madras is Professor V Kamakoti who designed India's first indigenously- developed microprocessor 'SHAKTI'. 

Professor Laxmidhar Behera from the electrical engineering department at IIT Kanpur, has been appointed the new director of IIT Mandi. Professor Suhas Joshi from the mechanical engineering department of IIT Bombay has been appointed the next director of IIT Indore. 

The new director of IIT Delhi, Professor Rangan Banerjee, is associated with the Department of Energy Sciences & Engineering, IIT Bombay. Congratulating Professor Banerjee, the former director of IIT Delhi, Professor V. Ramgopal Rao shared his wishes on his social media account. 

Expressing his delight, Prof Rao tweeted that Professor Rangan Banerjee from the Energy Sciences & Engineering department of IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi. 

Prof V. Kamakoti Appointed New Director of IIT Madras

Prof. V. Kamakoti who is an alumnus of IIT Madras, will be succeeding Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi as IIT Madras' new director. Prof Kamakoti is currently working as the Associate Dean for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (ICSR), IIT Madras. 

The former director of IIT Madras, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi congratulated Prof. V. Kamakoti on his appointment. He said that the institute will achieve great milestones in the coming years with Prof Kamakoti appointed as the new director. 

Prof Ramamurthi praised Prof Kamakoti as an excellent teacher and researcher, and an able administrator. He also spoke about Prof Kamakoti's roles in many national projects, which brought to bear his deep expertise in computing and cybersecurity. 

Further, the institute and the country will benefit tremendously from Prof Kamakoti's exceptional services, Ramamurthi added. 

Recently, an incubated startup of IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad, named GUVI collaborated with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to offer free Python and Artificial Intelligence (AI) upskilling courses to more than one million socially and economically disadvantaged Indian students.

IIT Mandi’s New Director is IIT Kanpur Alumni

Laxmidhar Behera is an electrical engineering professor at IIT Kanpur, who is appointed as the new director of IIT Mandi

Recently, IIT Kanpur has filed a total of 107 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in the year 2021 surpassing its earlier record of 76 IPRs in 2019. The institute notified that the 107 patents filed in 2021 includes 62 patents, 24 trademark applications, 2 copyrights, 15 design registrations and 4 US patent applications.

Mechanical Engineering Professor Appointed as IIT Indore's New Director 

The new director of IIT Indore, Professor Suhas Joshi is Mechanical Engineering Professor and the dean of alumni and corporate relations at IIT Bombay. 

Recently, IIT Bombay launched its fundraising campaign Go IIT Bombay (GO IITB) to raise funds for various campus initiatives, including infrastructure development, upgrade of education facilities, and scholarships.
