New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has introduced a master’s programme in Liberal Arts. The Programme will be for the upcoming academic year 2022-23.

The main motive of this liberal arts program is to promote a multidisciplinary approach in all aspects of higher education so that the youth are exposed to critical thinking, analytical reasoning, encourage creativity, multi-lingual and traditional knowledge while they prepare for complex and wide-ranging jobs,” Professor T G Sithram, Director at IIT Guwahati has commented. 

Master’s in Liberal Arts, IIT Guwahati: Course Objectives

The course aims to offer a cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary training to students and enhance their ability to think critically as well as creatively about the socio-political, aesthetic issues that plague the contemporary world. 

By engaging in these interdisciplinary conversations, students will be able to learn to form informed judgements and choices and remain aware of their ethical consequences.

The programme will also provide opportunities to interested candidates to engage with digital technologies and methodology, think critically about the technological paradigms and apply the digital tools in critical humanities research. 

The course set has been designed keeping in mind the modern developments in academia like interdisciplinary approaches and usage of Liberal Arts philosophy on a regular basis. The course includes concepts such as Geo-Spatial Analytics, Digital Humanities, Study of Vernacular Literature and Languages, International Relations and Diplomacy, Area Studies and so on.
