IIT Kharagpur to Offer 8-week Online Course on Data Mining; Check Details Here

New Delhi: IIT Kharagpur is all set to offer a free online course on data morning for 8-weeks through the NPTEL platform. 

Candidates and working professionals interested in enrolling for the online course on Data Mining offered by the IIT Kharagpur can visit the NPTEL website and register online till February 21, 2022. 

The 8-week course on Data Mining is an AICTE-approved FDP course, which will be exclusively available on the SWAYAM NPTEL platform of the Ministry of Education. 

IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Data Mining: Highlights

The undergraduate course will carry 2 credits and will mainly focus on basic algorithms like data preprocessing, association rules, classification, clustering, sequence mining and visualization. 

Professor Pabitra Mitra, associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT-KGP will deliver the course. He holds a BTech in Electrical Engineering degree from IIT KGP and PhD degree from ISI Calcutta. 

Prof Mitra was a Scientist at Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Bangalore and an Assistant Professor at IIT Kanpur. He has won various awards and written a book on data mining and has about 50 papers in international journals.

IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Data Mining: Eligibility Criteria 

The online course is open to anyone willing to learn the basics of data mining. However, if a participant requires a certificate, they'll have to register and sit for the proctored exam conducted by the institute in person at any of the designated exam centres.

In order to register for the exam, the participants should pay an optional fee of INR 1000, and appear for the exam on April 23, at any shift, from 9am to 12 noon or 2pm to 5pm.

IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Data Mining: Course Details 

The 8-week free online course on Data Mining is an elective course that will be conducted from February 21 to April 15, 2022. The institute will conduct a remote proctored examination on April 23, 2022, for those candidates requiring certificates. 

The fundamentals of data mining will be covered over a period of 8 weeks, and case studies on industrial problems will also be demonstrated. 

Following topics will be covered in the 8 week duration of the course:

• Week 1: Introduction, and data preprocessing.
• Week 2: Association rule mining, and classification basics.
• Week 3: Decision Tree, Bayes Classifier, and K nearest neighbor.
• Week 4: Support Vector Machine, and Kernel Machine.
• Week 5: Clustering, and Outlier detection.
• Week 6: Sequence mining.
• Week 7: Evaluation, and visualization. 
• Week 8: Case studies.

IIT Kharagpur Free Online Course on Data Mining: How to Apply? 

Interested candidates can apply online through the NPTEL platform on or before 21 February 2022. They can visit the official NPTEL website, and create a registration ID for themselves and apply for the online course on data mining.
