IIT Madras’ BS in Data Science and Application win Wharton-QS Reimagine Education Awards

New Delhi: This time, the BS in Data Science and Applications programme from IIT Madras took home the silver medal for "Best Online Program." Additionally, the IITs and IISc's collaborative project, NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), took home the Gold in the category for "Lifelong Learning."

The top online degree programme was given to the IIT Madras BS in Data Science and Applications because it offered a hybrid form of teaching/learning facilities, utilising multimedia and a combination of electronic and traditional educational approaches.

The degree, according to IIT Madras, has drawn applicants from all around the nation, including rural places "where outreach of digital literacy is negligible." The program's goal is to improve undergraduates' employability in the fields of data science and application development. According to the institute, "the BS Degree programme is more accessible and has an inclusive qualifying process, unlike the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE), in which only a small percentage of overall candidates qualify."

The greatest technological diffusion initiative in India is called NPTEL. IIT Madras is the project's coordinator, and the consortium consists of seven IITs and IISc. By offering free online courses and video lectures, the project—funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India—aims to raise the standard of engineering education in India.
