IIT Madras Delegation to Construct an Offshore Campus in Tanzania

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras delegation visited Tanzania to Construct the first IIT offshore campus in the African continent.

Binaya Pradhan [an Indian diplomat and High Commissioner of India], tweeted that the establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Tanzania can benefit the development and nation-building of Tanzania and the entire continent..

According to a tweet from Binaya Pradhan, IIT in Tanzania is rapidly becoming a reality. A team of five IIT Madras professors is currently in Tanzania, and they had productive meetings with Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi [president], HE Lela Muhamed [Minister of Education] and HE Adolf Mkenda.

In order to establish an IIT offshore campus, a group of five eminent professors from IIT Madras, including Professors Raghu Rengaswamy, KN Satyanarayana, Preeti Aghalayam, Livy Philip, and Annamalai Mani, travelled to Tanzania.

He further tweeted that he's grateful to the Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi [Pressident], for his continuous support to the project. It will be the first IIT to be set up in Africa, and it can be instrumental in nation-building and growth of not only Tanzania but the entire continent.

Last year, Dharmendra Pradhan [Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan] held a series of bilateral meetings with the counterparts Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Mauritius to strengthen bilateral connections.

Dharmendra Pradhan also discussed with Lela Muhamed Mussa [the minister of education and vocational training] about India's support for the IIT project in Tanzania.
