IIT Madras has taken over DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence for Research in Advanced Technologies

New Delhi: The DRDO-founded centre has been taken over by IIT Madras and transformed into a Centre of Excellence, an interdisciplinary research organisation that pulls in academics and researchers from other disciplines to carry out translational research.

In order to conduct directed research in cutting-edge technologies for defence and security and to establish a top-tier research centre developing cutting-edge technologies, the DRDO Industry Academia- Ramanujan Centre of Excellence (DIA-RcoE) was founded.

Its official name is the "DRDO Industry Academia- Ramanujan Centre of Excellence" (DIA-RCoE), and it was founded with the goals of conducting focused research in cutting-edge technologies for defence and security and building a top-tier research facility. Additionally, it will significantly advance "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" in the field of defence.

IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti highlighted the outcomes anticipated from the DRDO Industry Academia- Ramanujan CoE, saying, "It is an important milestone in bringing the academia, industry, and DRDO together to collaborate and develop Atmanirbhar technologies for critical needs of our country. For start-ups and MSMEs, this will be a unique opportunity to take part in this crucial activity of nation-building.

The centre, which was established in accordance with the Defense Ministry of India's "Long Term Directed Research Policy," will conduct multidisciplinary directed fundamental and applied subject in the following research areas:

  • Electronics and Computational Systems, 
  • Naval Systems and Naval Technologies 
  • Advanced Combat Vehicle Technologies 
  • High Power CW Laser sources 
  • Next-generation communication and networking technologies 

By utilising the expertise of academics and researchers of IIT Madras and collaborating with other educational institutions and technology hubs around the nation, the DIA-RCoE will promote targeted basic and applied research. To further planned scientific inquiries and the creation of cutting-edge technologies, DRDO experts will collaborate with academic faculty members and researchers. These scientists have the necessary research and technological expertise.
