hosts its firstever InterIIT Cultural Meet

New Delhi: The Inter-IIT Cultural Meet, which attracts participants from all 23 of the nation's IITs, is being held for the first time at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). A total of 3,200 students will participate in the "Inter-IIT Cultural Meet 5.0," which will take place on campus from January 9 to January 11, 2023.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the annual cultural meet—hosted by a different IIT—has been postponed for the past two years. IIT students from all campuses come together for events put on by various clubs to promote cultural arts. The purpose of this event is to provide some of India's most brilliant minds the chance to demonstrate their abilities and distinguish themselves by taking part in a variety of activities that enhance the IITs' cultural landscape.

January 9, 2023 the Inter-IIT Cultural Meet 5.0 was officially opened by Chief Guest L. Subramaniam, a renowned violinist, composer, conductor, and recipient of the Padma Bhushan award. Also present were Guest of Honor Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, Prof. Nilesh J. Vasa, Dean (Students), IIT Madras, Prof. Arshinder Kaur, Advisor (Cultural),

L. Subramaniam, the chief guest, addressed the pupils and asked, "What is music? You have a balanced outlook on life as a result. It encourages creativity while also assisting with relaxation. It will benefit you (students) regardless of your field. It will assist you in finding solutions to issues for which you will need to think on your feet. Music instruction must be incorporated into the curriculum, according to the National Education Policy. Making music as a part of education will boost everyone's creativity. Great scientists like Albert Einstein and even our own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam both played the violin.

L. Subramaniam also remembered taking part in Saarang, the annual cultural festival held at IIT Madras, back when it was known as "Mardi Gras." There are nine overall categories, and there is a cup for each one. The sixth inter-IIT cultural meet's overall winner receives a trophy and is crowned the winner.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, urged students to take part in the cultural meet, saying, "The Institute is delighted to organise this year's Cultural Meet. In terms of cultural events, India is incredibly diverse. When it comes to engineering, any engineer who has a thorough grounding in an art performs exceptionally well, especially in projects, research, and reports, according to the 21 years that I have spent teaching at IIT Madras. These extracurricular activities bring out in the kids a certain aspect of grace, originality, and uniqueness.

Prof. Nilesh J. Vasa, Dean (Students), IIT Madras, gave a speech at the event and said, "IIT Madras welcomes all the IITs participating in this edition of the fest. The Institute is honoured to serve as the venue.

Literary arts, Speaking and Comedic Arts, Theatre Arts, Dance Arts, Musical Arts, Film-making Arts, Fine Arts, Digital Arts, and Lifestyle Arts will all be represented in the cultural meet through various activities. This year's newly added events include e-sports and culinary competitions.

Prof. Arshinder Kaur, Advisor (Cultural), IIT Madras, stated this regarding the cultural festival: "IIT Madras is humbled to host the IIT cultural fraternity showing their creativity and extracurricular skills. Inter-IIT Cultural 5.0 connects IIT students from all across India on a social and cultural level so they can socialise and create lifelong memories.

Shamil Niyas, the Cultural Affairs Secretary at IIT Tirupati, spoke about his experience competing in the festival. He said, "The atmosphere in IIT Tirupati is shouting 'Inter IIT,' with rigorous rehearsal sessions all day and night. We are eager to provide everything we have to produce a fantastic endeavour despite all these restless nights and the enthusiasm fever. At the end of the day, it is our unwavering desire and this unique opportunity to fight against the best that keeps us going, not winning medals or trophies.

Fourth-year M.S. student Akshath Ram "The Inter IIT Cultural Meet 5.0 is the ideal constantly envisioned by the cultural team of IIT Madras during stormy times, a vision that is all ready to be lived," stated a student who is also the organising head of Inter IIT.

The tournament will come to an end with a closing ceremony on January 11, 2023. The winners will get their rewards from Prof. V. Kamakoti.
