New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is inviting applications for admission to its BS in Data Science and Applications programme on its official website at onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in. The deadline to apply for the admission process is January 16, 2023 for interested and qualified candidates.
As per IIT Madras, the BS Program in Data Science and Applications will be delivered online and will be accessible to students all around the world. However, all tests will be held given face-to-face. Applying for this programme, which has been running for two years, can be done online at onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in.
To apply for admission, candidates should have studied English and mathematics in Class X. The program from IIT Madras does not require learners to stop preparing and attempt JEE to apply.
The programme also allows students of any age and from any background or group to apply and enrol. It already has participants who range in age from 18 to 75 and come from a variety of backgrounds, including engineering, the arts, science, commerce, economics, medical, and law.
The IIT Madras team is actively engaging with numerous industries for job and internship possibilities as the first batch approaches graduation. Internships have been offered to students in organisations such as Ford Analytics, KPMG, Aditya Birla, Renault Nissan, Vunet, Buckman AsiaPacific, and Reliance Jio, among others.
As of now, more than 16,000 students are studying in the program, with more than 4,500 at the Diploma level and the first batch of 60 studying at the degree level. Professor V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras said, “The program is the first step in opening up IIT Madras in an inclusive manner to the learners across the country".
"Hands-on training in every single course, building strong foundations in learners, exposing the learners to cutting-edge technology and topics, and the rigorous assessment methods make this an employment-oriented program in a domain where the projection is 11.2 million jobs in the next 10 years" he added.
After extensive discussion with professionals in the field, the curriculum for this online undergraduate degree was created to ensure that graduates are productive as soon as they enter the workforce.
There are several ways to graduate from the programme, including earning a certificate, a diploma, or a degree. The learner now has the freedom to decide what level of skill they wish to gain and leave with.
Over 4,000 students are taking advantage of the scholarships available to students from economically challenged backgrounds, according to Dr. Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Professor in Charge of the BS in Data Science and Applications at IIT Madras.
"The in-built qualifier process ensures that students do not have to spend on going to coaching classes, and the reasonable program fee coupled with the scholarships ensure that the program is affordable to anyone who has the motivation to work hard and learn from IIT Madras" he added.
